Jimi Hendrix
V r. 1961 působil v nashvillské sk. Imperials. V následujícím roce hraje v kanadské sk. Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers. Po propuštění z armády (1962) se v r. 1964 usazuje v N.Y.C., kde spolupracuje se soulovým zpěvákem Curtisem Knightem. Ještě předtím se ale objevil jako studiový hráč v nahrávkách řady pop hvězd (Little Richard, Ike & Tina Turner, Albert King, Isley Brothers, atd.). Z této doby vyšlo později mnoho alb, ale už pouze pod Hendrixovým jménem. V r. 1965 zakládá vlastní R&B kapelu Jimi James & The Blue Flames. V New Yorku ho objevuje manažer Chas Chandler a v září 1966 spolu odjíždějí do Londýna. Tam Chandler získává dva spoluhráče - bubeníka Mitche Mitchella a baskytaristu Noela Reddinga. Vzniká trio Jimi Hendrix Experience. První vystoupení se odehrálo v říjnu, v pařížské Olympii (jako předkapela Johnnyho Hallydaye). V prosinci vychází 1. singl s cover verzí někdejšího hitu skupiny The Leaves - Hey Joe. Zaznamenává překvapivý úspěch. Na jaře 1967 se koná první britské turné a Hendrix získává pověst nejen svým výstředním vystupováním (zapalování kytary, hraní zuby...), ale především svojí hudbou (kombinace blues, psychedelie a tvrdého rocku) a mnohoznačnými texty.Následují 2 další hity - Purple Haze a Wind Cries Mary a velmi úspěšné debutové album Are You
